Standards of Learning: In Elementary School we start the children with the
basics of a well-rounded education in order to develop a well-trained mind. Because each student
learns at his or her own pace, no calendar is included and when the curriculum is completed an
evaluation will be made by the Professors of BiblioTronix, whether a complete calendar school year
has past or not. Elementary School children are required, just as in the higher grades to take:
English, Math, History, Science, Foreign Language, and an Elective. These are the years in which
grammar, or rote memorization of facts, will be developed.
English: In English, we hope to develop an appreciation for literature as well as
developing their oral language skills. This can be achieved through listening to books being read,
and writing their own stories starting out in Kidnergarten with the use of pictographs and other
devices.
History: History will include an introduction to the basic concepts of linear time
and geographic direction. Through the use of maps and economic standards the children will be able
to identify the general areas of places in the world and what types of people live there. This can
be demonstrated through the rich stories from around the world about interesting historical figures.
Math: Requirements for math in elementary school are quite simple. The children will learn
basic counting and sorting skills as well as pattern recognition. This will begin to teach about
combining and comparing similar and dissimilar objects as well as other quantitative and relational
concepts. Math symbols and vocabulary will be utilized as well as the use of math as a problem
solving skill.
Science: Science emphasizes information gathering. Skills such as
questioning and testing those questions will be developed in the process of gathering facts.
Phenomena such as shadows, weather, stars and plant growth will be used in conjunction with the
common objects of their world like magnets and water. Measuring, sorting and classifying will be
developed in order to begin the understanding of the difference in factual information.
Foreign Language: Ancient Greek will be
demonstrated and the concept of the foreign language will begin in the first year in Kindergarten.
The Foreign Language requirement begins with this familiarity. The children will be studying ancient
Greek until they reach the Logic stage of the Trivium, grade 6, in which they will begin, their
study of Latin.
Arts: The Elective requirement for any elementary school
level can be met by taking any one of the following: Art, Classical Ballet, Fencing, or Music.
